We have been noting the questions people ask at the end of every session, and three keep repeating: how far away is that star, why can we not see the Milky Way from the town, and how do I photograph this with my phone.
The third one surprises me. It is not astronomy, it is a souvenir they want to take home. Has anyone prepared a short guide for it?
Same three here, and a fourth: “is this light pollution or just clouds”. We printed a one-page card with a phone-photography recipe, ten-second exposure, tripod against a wall, and it has been the most successful thing we have handed out all year.
Schools ask a different set: how big is the universe, what happens inside a black hole, and whether we are alone. The third one always ends the session late.
