Text-to-speech in the field: what actually works?

The platform has to include text-to-speech and alternative text for visually impaired users, and we would rather test it now than at the end.

Has anyone tried a screen reader with an itinerary or a booking page? We are interested in what breaks first: the map, the calendar or the PDFs. Any recommendation of tools that work in Spain, Portugal, France, Ireland and the UK is welcome.

We tested a screen reader with the calendar: it works, but the date picker is a form with no labels. The PDFs are fine if they are tagged; ours were not. Alternative text in the photographs of the itinerary is what we are fixing now.
