Our current policy covers guided walks during daylight hours, and the insurer has asked a question I cannot answer well: what changes at night?

I would rather learn from your experience than from a claim. Which policy do you use, does it explicitly mention night activities, and has anyone had to justify it after an incident?

Ours names the activity explicitly, “guided night walks and stargazing sessions”, and it was not much more expensive than the generic one. What did raise the premium was group size above thirty. Also, we now keep a written risk assessment per site, revised every season; the insurer asked for it once and it was worth having.

Same advice, plus one detail: check what happens with volunteers who are not staff. In our case they are covered only if they are registered as such before the activity, and that is a form nobody fills in until the day it matters.
